Thanksgiving

Our family is on the East Coast, so we usually have a Friendsgiving on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This year, I cooked the special cassoulet with duck confit offered by Good Eggs. It was simple to put together, but after eating so much rich food, it was hard to eat another rich and savory entree. It also began to rain again in the Bay Area, and so I rushed to pull out the old tomatoes, add a bit of compost, and stir up the soil in my sunken hugelkultur bed. I threw handfuls of Vetch and Red Clover on top just before the rains so that I can get started on growing a cover crop, which I'll dig into the soil in the spring before I plant my summer plants. Oh, and I cut some late blooming pollinators and early blooming camellia's for the bud vases.
